Midweek Musings

I called the transit office on the way home last night and I asked the driver this morning – no sign of my work badge. Here’s hoping that the cleaners found it on the bus last night. If not, I’ll have to get a new one.

Seems like a rather insignificant thing right now. My godmother is having a harder and harder time with her father. It doesn’t seem like Uncle Bill has too many days left. In some ways, that’s a blessing. Watching him slowly deteriorate is cruel for both of them. Even so, it’s got to be hard knowing what’s coming. (She’s a hospice nurse by profession, on leave to care for her dad.) She’s a very empathetic person anyway and is almost always deeply touched by the death of a patient. So I can’t begin to imagine how this must be for her.

The house always seems to be full as he has a big family. She’s lucky that her aunts and uncle, her kids, and even a friend or two stand ready to help. (Some of them though are old and sick themselves so I think she probably ends up caring for them a little, too.) And, the mother and I are just minutes away which has been a blessing more than once already.

The mother has been talking to her often and helping where she can. And she’s upset, too. I can’t even temporarily distract her with talk of appliances. That’s pretty bad.

On the plus side, it’s going to be a gorgeous day. The sun is already shining brightly so I can slip on my new shades, crank up the iPod and not think about anything.
