Fallin'

It’s very brisk today (low 40s) and my bones are absorbing the cold. Brrrr. The chill on the bus isn’t helping. I feel like a much heavier jacket is in order than what I’ve been wearing. Thank God it wasn’t like this yesterday! (Pouring down rain, but nearly 20 degrees warmer.)

Is it any wonder that so many people are sick? One day, you need the A/C. The next, you need the furnace. Speaking of which, if you haven’t thought about it lately, this might be a good time to change your furnace filter.

I just changed ours over the weekend. Our furnace is currently set up to run a time or two early in the morning and overnight if needed. Seems awfully early, I know, but we’re having quite the run of below average temperatures.

The positive note is that those temps are finally affecting the lawn. You may recall I decadently neglected to mow over the weekend and yet the yard only looks a bit tall, not scraggly the way it usually does in just under a week.

It’s only going to hit about 60 over the weekend and I really need to weed eat one last time this year. Ugh. And I probably should fertilize the lawn, too. 'Tis the season and all that crap.

I also need to start thinking about draining and storing the hose. I think I saw that Monday night we’re supposed to be flirting with freezing. Nice.

Man, I seriously need to live in warmer climes. A child who was born on a day when the temperature was 100 degrees was not cut out to survive below 50 degrees! C’mon Powerball.

Very good advice about the furnace filter. As the queen mother of a house, I need to do that stuff that the hubs used to do regularly. Like take the hoses off the faucets in winter, and change the furnace filters. Thanks for the reminder.

I refuse to turn on the furnace until November, just on principal. Winter's cozy for a couple weeks, after that I dream of sunshine too...

I make my son change the furnace filter . I have to remind him 100 times. like mowing, he will do it but you have to catch him before he leaves to go , climbing , biking, movies , out to eat, to see girlfriend, work, class , swimming "only in the summer of course" or has he calls it Hanging out with my friends. So I have to remind him to mow way over 100 times.. LOL! Oh, to be young.

We must be on opposite sliding scales. I miss winter so fiercely its all I think about during the summer here!

'Winter' wont kick in for another 2 months. The most I can hope for is 'cool' fronts in the mean time. Send some of that cold down here missy!

Yep, with nights in the 40's already, we've been doing the early morning furnace run also.

I started on some of the fall cleanup list last weekend - weedeated, first round of leaf mowing, cleaned out gutters (Ick & Ewwwwww), checked downspouts, etc. I'll add cleaning out the flower pots to this weekend's list so I can get the hoses put away, thanks for that reminder! And I reeeeeeeally need screens for the front gutters so I don't have to be cleaning them out every frickin' week! (See above Ick & Ewwww!) Oh, and spray weed & feed, thanks for that reminder also. D*mn, you're good!

sewwhat -- You're welcome! It's one of those things I've been primed since childhood to watch over (filters). We had a coal furnace in the house until 1978 and Young Tom decided that the new furnace needed messing with all the time (now that futzing with the coal was no longer necessary), so the filter was one way to do that.

Leah -- Yeah, I'd probably suffer through it, but the mother is older so I don't balk at turning it on.

Karen -- yeah, I guess you'd have to remind kids A LOT. :-)

Victoria -- If only I COULD box it up, you can bet I'd be happy to send it to you.

Kate -- :-) We aim to amuse AND educate! Ick and eww for sure. We've slowly gotten around having to get leaves out of the gutters. They just pile up under the fence, the deck and through the landscape rock!
