LEAVE MY BLOG ALONE!

That's right. It's there in all caps. Read it. Do it. I'm talking to you with all the foreign alphabet names who don't leave real comments ...

I'm speaking to those freakin' spammers who keep trying to sell sex, Gucci, porn pix and God knows what else via links on MY BLOG!!!! Rest assured, if I wanted any of those things sold via my blog, I'd be the one doing it. IT'S MY BLOG, a**hat, NOT YOURS!

I'd been lucky until about two months ago. Before that, there would only be a random one or two. Now, every few days, there are 10, 15, 20 at a time showing up. If this keeps up, I'll HAVE to put the comment security in place. I've tried not to because I find it annoying personally. So, I'll apologize now to my faithful commenters and new visitors alike if it should come to that.

In the meantime you worthless sack o'crap spammers, the sheriff is on duty.

Can you use something like Akismet (sp?) with Blogger? Wordpress blogs automatically have it and it filters comments. I get a lot of those, but they never actually show up in my inbox. Sometimes I'll get a "hey, your blog was really informative. I plan on coming back to visit it quite often." and they leave a blog address. I never click over because if they really thought my blog was so great they would leave comments on other posts as well, and comments that were actually relevant to the post. Anyway, check it out to see if you can add a third-party spam filter to your blog.

GO NV!!! I noticed those showing up in my inbox awhile ago since I always check the box to email follow up comments. What really seemed weird it that it seems they're mostly on posts that are several weeks or even several months old. WTH?

On a side note, even though the comment security can be a pita, sometimes they are actually quite entertaining. The odd selection of letters can be pretty humorous.

I am SOOOO with you on this! I had to put moderation on my comments for the same reason. I hated doing it, but couldn't take the viagra ads any more. And they think they are being sneaky by putting it on old posts, like they think you aren't watching them any more or something. Duh. Back up off my blog, people! My parents read it, for chrissake!

A few months back, I checked my comments and realized that someone (name in the Chinese alphabet) had posted one of their spammer comments on every SINGLE one of my posts.

I meticiously went through each and every one deleting it and immediately setup the comment moderation.

I had to turn on comment moderation the other day for the same reason. I always deleted the spam comments, but I hate for them to be there for even an hour. I don't want to advertise their crap for even one minute.

Spammers are everywhere on the Internet. Thought managing a forum is even worse...thousands of bot accounts signing up to post the same garbage over and over and over and you have incessantly delete it and ban the account....
I took to installing word-filters to make their pitch completely ridiculous, of course.

Vicki -- Not sure. In any case, I'll probably resort to some form of moderation if this keeps it. :( Having been a long-time member of the Fourth Estate, I'm all about the First Amendment. But this is BS!!!

Kate -- THX! Yeah. They've been hitting older posts. And some of the ones they chose really P*ssed me off!

Ty'sMommy -- B*stards! Thank God for the email function to notify you of comments or else it would be difficult to keep track. :-)

Kristy -- WOW! EVERY post?! Now that's diligence -- and serious invasion. Wish you could do something to them electronically when they post that crap. :)

Chris -- I'm with ya. Lookin' more and more like I'm going to have to do the same.

Madengineer -- YAY! Now that's fightin' back. Love it!

I wonder if it would help if you stop tagging you posts. It could be that the comments often show up on older posts because the bots are searching for designated keywords.

Why -- I wondered that, too. I think I would institute the monitor though before I'd drop tagging just to appease this wicked monster!
