A Whole New Look

Do you ever get the itch to put a new color on the wall? Or to buy all new furniture? Or even just to change out all the pictures in a given room? The itch that wants you to alter your surroundings.

Yeah, that itch. Well, it turns out I've been suffering from this for some time not only at This D*mn House but also where the blog bearing its name is concerned. I wanted to do a little changing up of the whole layout. Blogger recently made some changes that supposedly made this easier and I've been playing with them off and on during the past few weeks. It's never been one of my strongest suits but I'm slowly getting better at it.

After trying a variety of different combinations, this is what I've hit upon -- at least for now. One of the biggest and most immediately noticeable changes is the logo. Do you like that? It's something that has actually been in use for more than two years on my Houseblogs.net profile. In fact, it was created specifically for that.

Recently though, I've been asked for my "logo" by different people for different reasons. So, it's out there. It's showing up different places. That got me thinking. Shouldn't it be on this site then?

I actually have a different picture that I wanted to use as my background but I haven't figured out how to do that. (This painting ladder scene was as close to DIY as I could find amongst Blogger's current offerings.) So, it could potentially change. If I was betting, I'd put money on it changing. That's due in large part to the fact that I still don't know what I'm doing. As I slowly figure it out, change is inevitable.

It's all still under construction so I hope you'll hang with me as I put it through the paces. I'm sure I've already made some mistakes but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Right?

Wow! Totally wow! It's very professional-looking and also very soothing. I like it.

And yeah, I know that feeling where you just have to change something. I've got new carpet coming Monday! Hurray!

I just located your blog. Looking forward to checking it each day. I am seeking ways to add a walkway from driveway to the original entrance. Everyone has always used the side door since that's where the sidewalk directed.

I like it. I loved the other look too. This one looks so professional. You are so busy. Got to get that itch taken care of. Have a great weekend.

I like it! The font color against the background is a good combo. I need to change my header, too, but I don't know what I'm doing.

Really excellent.

I like that I can still read it, as opposed to the blogs with low contrast between type and background, sigh.

I feel a little thrown by the text all on the left hand side instead of in the middle. At least in my setup, which has a larger font set, there's an inch or two of mostly unused space on the right side.

Star -- Thanks! I'm still tinkering but am pretty pleased so far. Congrats on the carpet. New is always exciting!

Bettie -- You have an awesome blog and I'm so glad you stopped by. When I did my walkway, I provided a step by step and some tips in some of the contest entries I did. Happy to share if it might help you.

Karen -- There you are! Was wondering about you and hoping things were well. Thanks! Glad you like it.

Jayne - The font color and background color were the hardest part. I wanted to ensure that it remained readable. I know they're a bit drab but I don't completely want to lose sight of the content.

Karen Anne -- Glad you found it very readable. This is very important to me. I know the layout looks funny on some screens. It looks much better on my home computer than it does on my work one. Which made my job harder because I'd make changes at night and then when I'd look at them from work, they'd look wrong.

KayO -- I'm so glad! We're on an "agreeing" role again. I will have to find something on which to disagree with you on. :-)
