The Shocking Incident

Remember that shocking incident I alluded to the other night? Well, I’m being kidnapped on Saturday! But don’t help me. Please. Seriously. Don’t. I received this “ransom note” from MonkeyGirl last week. It read in part:

I know you are on a deadline. I know you desperately want to be finished with your outside work. I know you have been working your tail off for the past couple of months. I know you need - no, you deserve - a break. So I am forcing your hand. I have paid your registration fee for the Scrap-A-Thon on the 6th. I paid for your dinner. You are going. There will be no arguments. … I'm coming to pick you up and I will bring you home. There, I've made the decision for you. It's only one day - and I promise not to nag you about any other crops until it gets cold.

Let me explain for those among you who don’t scrapbook. A crop is a regular get together for scrapbook enthusiasts. It’s a fantastic group activity to generate ideas, share materials and tools, and generally just have a d*mn good time. Some groups meet weekly; ours meets monthly.

But then there’s the occasional “other” event. And that’s what Saturday’s is. Way back in late April or early May, the MonkeyGirl’s company had this same event as a fundraiser for their corporate foundation. It was so successful that they’re doing it again. It’s a scrap-a-thon because it’s essentially a “marathon” crop in that it is going for 12 hours, more than twice the length of the average crop. Now, consider yourself educated on the topic!

And again, please don’t try to rescue me. It’s for my own good. And it’s another one of those times where I have to ponder: How do I warrant friends like this?!

Kudos to Monkeygirl for her criminal act! Thinking Lowe's, Home Depot and your neighbors will report you as a missing person. Have a great time.

Yay for you (and Monkeygirl)! I love crops. They're the only times I get any scrapbooking done. I hope you have fun and enjoy the time away from the house :)

Thanks, ladies. I'm not sure I'll know how to act ... CD may be right. I could be reported missing! :-)

Well, this is waaaay more fun than what I thought you were gonna tell us. I imagined that somehow you'd shocked yourself on some sort of power tool. Scrapbooking, LOTS more fun than electrocution!

House projects? and now a whole day devoted to girl talk and scrapping? Very jealous!

I did get my card done today btw...barely! ;) I'll post some pics soon!

Oh how fabulous! I am completely jealous. I hope to make it to our crop on the 19th, but it won't be a marathon! Soooo jealous. Have lots of fun!

Everyone says that NV needed a break - somehow a mani and a pedi didn't seem fitting but I knew that a marathon crop would hit the spot! And barring any recent midigit injuries, I won't even have to cut her chicken for her!

Jayne - It was AWESOME and I know you'd be pleased as this was something you were lobbying for.

kspin -- Yep. A WHOLE DAY -- after I worked on the house for about 4 hours. A worthwhile trade-off.

ty'smom -- I know. I love these long events as it gives me time to slowly work into a groove. I'm better prepared for it than usual, too, thanks to crop camp.

MG -- No, the midigit is properly healed and I haven't broken any fingers since THAT time three + years ago.
