My Good Friend Charles Grey

Earl Grey and I we go waaaaay back. And on mornings like this, I'm grateful for the introduction so many years ago.

Earl Grey to me is a tea but it's a tea named for an actual guy, Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, an early19th Century British prime minister. And quite the dude from the looks of it. (His first child, an illegitimate daughter, was raised as his sister. A year or two after that, he married and he fathered 15 more children with his wife!)

But whatever his tastes were for other things, the tea named in his honor two centuries ago, is among my favorites. (Runs a close race with Darjeeling and these two blends are only slight superior to a good cup of English Breakfast Tea.)

Yes, my British Isle roots -- and they are many -- come full circle in winter.
Time to bust out the jumbo mug and steep me up a cup!

I'm amazed that anyone can taste the difference. My palate is not so refined. Also, I'm amazed that people can drink really hot drinks. The roof of my mouth and my tongue will not let me indulge.

My BF is a brit and has introduced me to the wonderfulness that is PGTips -- the quintescential British tea. (http://www.pgtips.co.uk/) And he's taught me proper English-style which makes it even yummier.

I used to be an English Breakfast person; never really loved 'ole Earl. Did you know the Twinings thing is all marketing? They don't even sell the stuff there.

Dee, er, Kay -- It sure felt like it this morning! And anytime it's below 40, all bets are off. It might as well be December. But then it was 100 degrees the day I was born ...

V -- I love me some hot tea! I can hardly drink poor Lipton anymore. Bummer about your oversensitivities. Hot tea and a good cappucino are among the only good things about cold weather!

Judy -- Hmmm. I've always loved the Brits! May have to give the Tips a try. As for Twinings, marketing or not, they've got me. I still love ole Earl.
