An Alternate Plan

I've decided that I'm going to entertain some bids for demoing the remainder of the sidewalk.

However, rockhead that I am (pun intended), I've convinced myself to develop yet another alternative. (Yeah, you knew I was too stubborn for it to be that easy to just walk away, right?) Since a) this was the first of the blocks and b) it was semi-anchored to the porch and c) I now know what thickness is involved and d) it was also the biggest of the slabs, I might be able to get the remaining slabs up whole.

At any rate, my plan is to try to this week. (NOT tonight. I'm doing good today to move around though I'm not in as bad of shape as I'd feared. The sunburn actually hurts worse than my muscles!)

If it works, or almost works, great. There's my next step. If not, hand it over to some burly dudes.

There are many reasons that I do not classify myself as a DIY-er, and the mere thought of breaking up a concrete sidewalk by hand makes me want to crawl back into bed and hide! I vote for hiring the burly dudes - I'll even make a donation!

OH.MY.GODDESS.

We need an intervention here. I read the other sidewalk post as well. How are you even TYPING? How have your radius and ulna not liquefied yet? We need to get you some burlies, pronto. This is not for the work of one.

May the force be with you.

Girl, if you keep tearing up that sidewalk, YOU will be looking like a burly dude. Just something to keep in mind. :)

OK, ladies. But apparently I have to look harder. First bid: $600.
SIX -- gulp -- hundred DOLLARS! The whole project isn't costing much more than that!!!!

Here's hoping that my alternate plan works. Will be easier on me physically all the way around 'cause my heart can't take too many more bids like that one.

I've always had a little bit of bicep, but this project in particular has brought them out. Even so, I don't think I'm likely to get mistaken for a dude anytime soon. :-) But that made me laugh, Jayne!

Oh my god, yes, you definitely need help! Come to think of it, I could use the exercise! I need to get a sitter and come down for a day and help!

Seriously though, with all the work we've done on our own money pit, I can honestly tell you that there is something to be said for spending the money on help, instead of at the chiropractor.

That's so sweet, Ty's mom! I'll get 'er done. I haven't gotten to see if my theory will bear out yet (maybe tonight) and I've not gotten any other offers in yet. But there is no way I'm paying $600!

I don't blame you a bit! That is just too much to pay for something you can do yourself, albeit painfully.
I need to put a call in to my friend in Caseyville that runs a concrete business and see if he has any helpful suggestions (or, hey you never know, kindhearted free labor!)for you!
