Life in the Power-Free Zone

I feel very much like the scene in Network where Peter Finch throws open the window and yells, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

For the fifth or sixth time in a month -- the THIRD time in a week -- we are without power. Ameren, you're really trying my patience. Their Web site tells me that once again, the same 288 customers are without power right along with me. You'd think that after this many times it would be fixed. You'd think --but you'd be wrong.

If it's the SAME area that many times over a short amount of time that is affected, wouldn't you think you'd be able to isolate the problem? I guess not. That's more power outages in a month that we had in all the previous years COMBINED that we had Illinois Power. Ridiculous.

I guess I should be thankful because I had just gotten out of the shower and into my pajamas. Otherwise, I'd have been in the shower at the time.

I have a few things I need to do for work since I don't go back 'til Thursday, so I guess I'd best do them while the computer still has some battery power.

Happy friggin' birthday. The day can only get better, right?

Happy friggin' Birthday! Is it really your birthday? Did I miss this somewhere? My excuse is the move... Oh, now all the gifts from your mom is making sense...

Anyway, hope the next couple of days make up for it somehow.

V -- Thanks. Yes, it really is my birthday today (Tuesday). Here's hoping that the day improves dramatically in the next few hours.

Well, Happy BIrthday! I hope it gets better for you.

I feel for you, I do. Where I live (we like to call it 'Deliverance') the power goes out when a deer farts in the woods (as my husband likes to say). And, we grateful you have a website to access for info. Around here, where we have an electric coop, you have a phone number. And during a power crisis, they don't bring in people to answer the phones or hire a subcontractor to answer, you just get a busy signal....for as long as it takes. November before last, we were out for a full 7 days and I never did get through.

Take a hint from my SkaterBoy and buy yourself a cookie cake, light a bunch of candles and play monopoly in the dark. It is a birthday tradition around our house!

Happy Birthday my MEF and take solice in the fact that at least it isn't quite as hot as it was the past few days!

Ty'sMom -- When a deer farts in the woods ... that cracks me up!

MG -- I got a key lime pie instead of a cookie cake, and so far, the power has stayed on!
