Validation

Every once in a while I see something that really makes me think. Remember in my “10 Things” yesterday, one of my “honest scraps” was that while life isn’t fair, it really is what you make it? Well, what if you could make it better – maybe even just a little bit – for one person at a time?

Yeah, it’s aspirational and corny and maybe even a little hokey. But so what? With the world in the state it’s in, I can’t think of a better time to give it a try. How could it hurt?

O.K. So back to what I saw.

Kspin has issued this interesting challenge: Send a message of encouragement, love, admiration or anything positive to “validate” one person every day in an effort she is calling Project Free Parking. She spells it all out here. Make sure you watch the video that inspired this. (It’s in her post.) It’s long and at times a little silly, but it made me laugh more than once. If you’ve had a bad day, DEFINITELY watch this!

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a parking attendant like that? C’mon. You know it would. Go forth and be that parking attendant. You can do it because you’re great. You’re awesome.

And you’ve got really nice cheekbones.

Yes, I do love your cheekbones! And the fact that you read my blog and comment on it! Thanks for that! Also, that you are such a good friend to my dear daughter. Oh, that everyone in the world could have a friend like you! And I truly admire your expertise and willingness to tackle seemingly impossible home improvement tasks--what a woman you are!

Those who work full time probably didn't get to see this, but on Oprah yesterday, she interviewed several people who said the same as you said, make life a little better for just one person at a time. She said this in response to the problems that many women in the world have where they have no freedoms or respect, are treated or mistreated as property, have no access to education. Check out her website for a program to help.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention! It sounds like a good plan to me!

kspin -- Thanks! It's those Indian genes. (Both parents have Native American bloodlines!) The video is silly but the message is heartening. Something to not lose sight of!

Sewwhat -- Aw. That is so sweet! Clearly, I'm your stamped ticket for the day! Thank you. And especially THANK YOU for my friend. I'm so privileged to have her and the rest of the group who know me -- and love me anyway! :-)

bettyl -- Glad you're on board. This is like one of those Pay It Forward things. If you just get small number of people going and they'll two friends and so on and so on ...
